LaRoyal Global CommunityNews with News Agency Nigeria correspondent recently had the opportunity to interview Alhaji Kamal Babatunde Ajanogun Tijani aka KABAT, APC Ikorodu Divisional Legal Officer and Ikorodu local government 2025 Chairmanship aspirant on September 11th, 2024 at his office where he shared his vision for the community and his plans for addressing key issues if elected. He expressed a strong commitment to improving education, youth empowerment, and infrastructure within the local government area.
KABAT also emphasized the importance of community engagement and participation in decision-making processes. Urged all 2025 chairmanship local government aspirants to keep calm for proper directives from the ruling Party.
Local government autonomy has been a significant development, having been granted by the federal Government and affirmed by the Supreme Court. This autonomy holds the potential to enhance the administration of local governments by granting them the authority to make independent decisions, thereby reducing the potential for overreach by state governments.
Regulation of the Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) falls within the purview of the state government and is subject to legislative modifications. The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) oversees these matters as per directives from the Supreme Court, and any developments related to this are determined at the state level.
As the vice chairman of the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS), our focus has been on initiatives aimed at socio-economic development, benefiting both residents and visitors across Ikorodu communities. Our efforts have included the introduction of innovative events, such as the Royal Banquet and the Children’s Day celebration, as well as recognizing the contributions of individuals and businesses through the Ambassadors Awards.
Youth engagement during the Ikorodu-Oga celebration is managed through a comprehensive security network to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment. Our stringent security measures, including the presence of local security forces and continuous power supply, contribute to the successful management of large-scale events.
In the context of upcoming local government elections, all aspirants are urged to await the official guidelines and conduct themselves with mutual respect and professionalism. It is essential to uphold a civil discourse and refrain from using derogatory language during the pre-election phase.
Encouraging citizen participation in the electoral process remains a priority. The exemplary performance of existing leaders, such as Hon. Jimi Adegoke Benson and Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, is a testament to effective governance and serves as a motivation for citizens to exercise their civic responsibilities.
My candidacy for the local government chairmanship is underpinned by extensive administrative and political experience, spanning decades of service and leadership within the community. If elected, I am determined to enact substantive changes across various sectors, including revenue generation, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and more.
The name “KABAT” is an acronym derived from my full name, symbolizing my long-standing commitment to identity and professional endeavours.
I am grateful for the opportunity to address these critical issues and remain committed to further engaging with the community to address their needs and aspirations.
