Hon. Shittu Abdulkareem Olugbenga, a former candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and 2023 aspirant for the House of Representatives in the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, formally announced his membership in the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, December 9, 2024.
This announcement was made during a courtesy visit to the office of the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, alongside the APC Ikorodu LGA Party Chairman, Hon. Prince Waheed Oladimeji Animashaun.
In a subsequent special interview, Hon. Shittu expressed that his decision to join the APC was motivated by his belief that the ruling party aligns more closely with his political vision and objectives. He stated, “I am now an APC member in Ikorodu Local Government,” underscoring his ability to adapt and integrate into varying political environments.
Shittu emphasized his dedication to serving humanity and fostering constructive change within society, expressing confidence that his vision can be effectively pursued on the platform of the APC.
He urged residents and constituents to support the current government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, advocating for patience and positivity, as he believes that the government’s initiatives will ultimately produce significant benefits for the populace.
Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of local government autonomy, asserting that strengthening the third tier of government is essential for national development. He said that this level of governance is the most accessible to citizens, which facilitates the addressing of ordinary Nigerians’ needs.
According to him, granting autonomy to local governments represents a prudent step towards promoting meaningful change and impactful governance in communities.
Hon. Shittu urged the public to maintain hope and patience with the current administration, assuring them that the efforts being made will yield positive outcomes. He concluded with the opinion, “After the dark night, comes the bright morning,” fostering an optimistic outlook for future advancements in Ikorodu and across the nation.
