In accordance with Quran Chapter 37, specifically verses 99-112, Aare Soku Olaribigbe (Lastampa), Chairman of the Ikorodu-Oga Association in the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as an Executive Committee of the Ikorodu-Oga Heritage Development Association (IHDA), has commemorated the 2025 Ileya festival by making the appropriate sacrifices of a ram and a cow, in alignment with his commitment as a practising Muslim.

On Saturday, June 7th, 2025, the Ram and Cow were processed in accordance with Islamic principles, and the meat was subsequently distributed among the residents of the community. Special attention was given to ensuring that vulnerable members of the community received adequate provisions at his residence in Eyita.

The term “Ileya” refers to a culturally significant event that carries substantial moral implications. In the Yoruba language, ‘Ileya’ translates to ‘it is time to go home.’ This designation serves as a reminder that, irrespective of one’s current location, it is important to return home when the time for Sallah arrives in order to partake in the celebrations.

Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Eid-al-Adha, is a significant religious observance within the Islamic tradition, commonly referred to as the “Feast of Sacrifice.” This festival is grounded in the narrative found in the Quran, specifically in Chapter 37, verses 99-112, which recounts the commandment given to Ibrahim by Allah to sacrifice his son, Ishmael.

At the moment he was about to fulfill this command, a divine intervention occurred, wherein a voice from heaven prevented him from proceeding. Consequently, Ibrahim offered a lamb as an alternative sacrifice.

Prominent figures and distinguished dignitaries associated with the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IHDA) include Chief (Baale) Akeem Ogbara, the pioneered person of De Kings Hotel Limited, and High Chief Banjoko- Olowu, the Aigo Oloja of the Ikorodu Kingdom popularly known as Nine-Nine among others were in attendance.

Alongside attendees was the representative of the Old-School Associates of Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, serving as the President of the alumni cohort from the 1975-1980 academic set- Aare Soku Olaribigbe (Lasampa).

This event is the basis for the annual celebration of Ileya among Muslims worldwide.

His Royal Majesty, HRM Oba Memood Olatunji of Eyita Kingdom, has bestowed royal recognition upon Chief Mrs. (Alhaja) Raheedat Olaribigbe (Lastampa), appointing her as the Iya’Olode of Eyita Kingdom.

A considerable amount of enjoyment and entertainment follows.

Happy Eid Mubarak 2025!
