Ikorodu, Lagos — The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje has reaffirmed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to grassroots development under the THEMES Plus agenda.

He made the declaration during the 10th Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting of Ikorodu Constituency I, held recently at the Ikorodu Ultra-Modern Town Hall in Ikorodu.

Dr. Agbaje commended Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye, the lawmaker representing Ikorodu Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, for his dedication to effective representation and for ensuring that the voices of the people remain central to the state’s policies.

He praised Ogunleye’s role in bridging the gap between the government and constituents, describing his efforts as “commendable and impactful.”

Highlighting ongoing interventions from the Office of Rural Development, Dr. Agbaje revealed that several transformers had already been distributed to communities within Ikorodu Constituency I to address electricity challenges.

He, however, assured residents that additional transformers and other rural electrification projects were in the pipeline, pending Governor Sanwo-Olu’s approval.

“Our office has successfully distributed transformers to Ikorodu Constituency I, but this is just the beginning.

More projects are on the way, in line with Mr. Governor’s approval to ensure every community enjoys a steady power supply,” he stated.

On infrastructure, the governor’s aide announced that the Office of Rural Development is currently undertaking strategic road construction projects across Lagos.

He specifically mentioned the 1.3-kilometre road at Monsuru Egbeyemi/Alhaja Agbaje Street in Ikorodu Local Government Area, which is under construction to improve accessibility, reduce travel time, and boost socio-economic activities in the area.

“This road project located at the Idi-Roko Poromosan community is just one of the critical rural road projects being executed. It reflects the governor’s determination to open up communities and enhance quality of life through infrastructure renewal,” he added.

In addition, he confirmed that the Ito Progressive Community Road in Ikorodu North LCDA is also undergoing grading and upgrading works to enhance accessibility and support rural development.

“These roads are not just about infrastructure; they are about opening up communities, connecting people to opportunities, and driving inclusive growth in line with Mr. Governor’s vision,” Dr. Agbaje explained.

Addressing the role of youths in the state’s development agenda, Dr. Agbaje urged young people in Ikorodu and beyond to engage more actively with the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development.

He emphasised that the Sanwo-Olu administration has designed several opportunities for youth empowerment, but effective communication with the ministry was key to accessing them.

“Youths are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are central to the THEMES Plus agenda of this administration.

I urge every young person here to take advantage of the Ministry of Youth and Social Development’s initiatives.

He reminded participants that earlier this year, the Office of Rural Development brought a digital training and skill acquisition program to Ikorodu Constituency I, where over 100 students and youths were trained and empowered with relevant 21st-century skills.

“That program was a demonstration of Mr. Governor’s vision to prepare our youth for the future. We empowered more than 100 young people in Ikorodu with digital and technical skills, and this is only the beginning,” Dr. Agbaje noted.

The government is intentional about creating opportunities for you, but you must be deliberate in communicating your needs and participating in available programs,” he said.

Reiterating Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus agenda — which prioritises Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism, Security and Governance, plus social inclusion — Dr. Agbaje assured stakeholders that the governor is determined to ensure equitable development across all divisions of the state.

He called on residents of Ikorodu Constituency I to remain steadfast in their support for the government, stressing that participatory governance and community feedback remain critical to delivering inclusive growth.
