Mayor Ameen Apanisile, on Thursday embarked on an on-the-spot assessment of flood-affected zones in Odogunyan following a heavy downpour, assuring residents of swift government intervention to ease their hardship and prevent future flooding.
The inspection, conducted alongside the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Mathew Aliu Adesanya, and other principal council officials, covered critical areas including Odonla Road, Odokekere Road, Odogunyan Grammar School, and adjoining communities impacted by the rainfall.
Mayor Apanisile expressed deep concern over the difficulty faced by residents, especially students and staff of Odogunyan Grammar School whose academic activities were disrupted.
“We cannot fold our hands while our people face hardship. Immediate palliative works will commence at once, even as we intensify efforts toward long-term drainage solutions to permanently curb flooding across our communities,” the Mayor assured.
He directed the Works and Infrastructure Department to begin urgent desilting and clearing of blocked drainage channels, urging residents to support government efforts by adopting proper waste-disposal habits to prevent environmental hazards.
“Sustainable environmental management is a shared responsibility. We are committed to building a safer, cleaner and more resilient Ikorodu North for all,” he added.

Engagement with IKEDC for better electricity supply.
Appeal for intervention against harassment of students by thugs and certain security operatives in the school environment.
Responding, Mayor Apanisile reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and academic advancement.
He assured them that:
Indigent student bursaries will commence next year
Free JAMB & GCE forms will be distributed
SIWES & internship placements remain open at the council
Collaboration with NYCN will be encouraged for the annual summit
The council will liaise with IKEDC for improved power supply around the school environment.
Urging the delegation to start mobilizing the students who are yet to have PVC to register for the ongoing INEC voter registration
“Education and youth empowerment remain top priorities for our administration. We will continue to support initiatives that nurture future leaders and strengthen our community,” he stated.
