The Ikorodu Local Government Area (LGA), under the leadership of Executive Chairman Honourable Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, has convened a significant event to officially commission the Ota-Ona Mini-Modern Market.

The market commissioning occurred on Monday, June 30, 2025, led by Executive Chairman Honourable Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina. 

This initiative reflects the commitment of the Ikorodu Local Government and the Itunjetan Descendants Family to foster local economic development and effectively manage the welfare associated with the ultra-modern mini-market.

This important ceremony was attended by several distinguished officials, including the Secretary to the Local Government, Honourable Lateef Adesina Affini; the Council Manager, Mr. Johnson Agiri; the Council Treasurer, Mrs. Olufunke Ojikutu; the LGA APC Party Chairman, Honourable Waheed Oladimeji Animashaun; along with various local political leaders.

Additional notable attendees included Chief Fatai Taiwo, the Head of the Itunjetan Descendants Family; Developer and Builder Mrs. Adebisi Kudirat Omobola; Alhaji Kolawole Fatai Olayiwola, Chairman of the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS); Comrade Adebambo Oriyomi Kazeem, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE); along with senior officers, staff, management, as well as Chief Mrs. Dcns. Busola Isikalu, the Iya-Oloja General of Ikorodu division, and Chief Olukayode Olomo, Baale Ojogbe, among others.

In his address, Honourable Adesina expressed the historical significance of the mini-market, beginning with his respectful remembrance of Alhaji Pa. Abdulgafaar Andrew of the Itunjetan Descendants Family, the former Chief Imam of Ikorodu Central Mosque, who generously provided land to the local government in the 1950s for the establishment of an ancient market and the construction of Oriwu Modern College in Ikorodu. Honourable Adesina paid tribute to his memory, wishing him eternal peace.

The newly developed Itunjetan Ultra-Modern Mini-Market comprises 45 shops and four toilets.

Honourable Adesina urged the shop owners to collaborate with the local government, acknowledging that the developer has completed the construction and has officially allocated the shops to their respective owners.

He emphasised that these shops will remain under the ownership and the local government for ten years, after which the local government will manage the mini-market for an additional twenty-five years according to the agreement made with the Itunjeitan Descendants Family. “Markets are vital instruments for economic development, a fact I am well aware of,” he stated.

Furthermore, Honourable Adesina took the opportunity to express gratitude to the people of Ikorodu for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.

He encouraged the citizens of Lagos State to vote in significant numbers for the ruling party (APC) in the upcoming Lagos State Local Government Elections on July 12, 2025, for the continued development of Ikorodu division and Lagos State as a whole, emphasising the benefits of democratic governance. “Please cast your vote for Abdullateef Adedayo Ladega as Chairman, along with the other candidates for councilorship positions,” he emphasised.

He acknowledged the entire Itunjetan family and expressed that their support was integral to the success of the event. Additionally, he highlighted his administration’s approach, which has now approached ten years, marking a significant milestone in Ikorodu’s history.

Following a formal welcome address by Chief Fatai Taiwo, the head of the Itunjetan descendants’ family;

Alhaji Monzor Olowosago, a proactive journalist and the publisher of Oriwu Sun Community Newspaper, corroborated the effective governance of the Executive Chairman, noting his pivotal role in the infrastructure development of Ikorodu, as reported in Oriwu Sun Community Newspaper.

The Iya’Oloja General of the Ikorodu Division, Chief (Mrs.) Dcns. Busola Isikalu, widely recognized as Busiq Fabrics, expressed her appreciation to the Executive Chairman for the innovative collaboration with the Itunjetan Descendants Family. She urged shop owners to make prudent use of the newly established Ultra Modern Mini-Market. Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of cooperation with the Ikorodu Local Government Authority to ensure the market’s sustainability and health. Following her remarks, she officially commissioned the newly constructed market restroom facilities.

The APC Party Chairman of Ikorodu LGA, Alhaji Waheed Oladimeji Animashaun, expressed gratitude to Honourable Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina for his commitment to making the market a reality, despite various challenges. He urged the citizens of Ikorodu to participate actively in the upcoming Local Government Elections, thereby reinforcing democratic principles and facilitating the negotiation for governance in Ikorodu during the 2027 presidential elections.

Mrs. Essien Titilayo Dorcas, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, effectively facilitated the proceedings, underscoring the significance of the event.
