The Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS) has convened the Ikorodu Oga Sports Summit and Awards to recognize key philanthropists and humanitarians for their enduring legacies. This event is scheduled for today, Thursday, October 23rd, 2025, at the Ayangburen Palace in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.
The Ikorodu Oga Sports Fiesta is an initiative spearheaded by IKODASS, themed “Reawakening of Sporting Activities in Ikorodu Division.”

In an interview with the IKODASS Chairman, Alhaji Kolawole Fatai Olayiwola, he articulated that the Ikorodu Oga Sports Fiesta will be formally integrated into the IKODASS constitution to ensure the sustainability of annual sports activities.

His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Kabir Adewale Shotobi, the Paramount Ruler of Ikorodu Division, also contributed his insights during the event. He discussed a renewed initiative aimed at enhancing digital literacy across Nigeria, supported by the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. This initiative is expected to bolster the capacity building of the populace.
Kabiyesi expressed his gratitude to the First Lady and the President for recognizing Ikorodu as a beneficiary of this initiative. He underscored the critical need to invest in the youth through sporting activities, stating, “We are prepared to allocate land for sporting purposes. It is incumbent upon the government to approve the construction of a stadium for our community.” He voiced hopes that this request will be incorporated into the budget proposals for 2026.

Honorable Babajimi Adegoke Benson, MHR, a member of the House of Representatives serving the 8th, 9th, and 10th National Assemblies, representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency, and the Chairman of the Nigerian Armed Forces Committee on Defence, articulated his vision for establishing a world-class stadium in Ikorodu, akin to the Onikan Stadium, which would be equipped with various sports facilities, including athletics tracks and a swimming pool. However, he acknowledged that land acquisition remains a primary challenge. “If land can be secured, I will facilitate the stadium project for Ikorodu.” He also mentioned initiatives to establish a Command Secondary School in Ikorodu, which is anticipated to be located within the 174 Battalion Cantonment, expressing optimism that construction will commence by the end of this calendar year.
