Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, has distributed over 1,200 bags of fertilizer to local farmers today, on Thursday, October 24th, 2024, at the Constituency Office, located opposite the abattoir, T.O.S. Benson Road in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.

This initiative aims to enhance food security and promote local agricultural production within the Lagos East Senatorial District in alignment, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Food Security Initiative,” which seeks to alleviate hunger across Nigeria.

A group of dignitaries convened to oversee the distribution of fertilizers to local farmers, emphasizing the critical importance of utilizing these resources appropriately and discouraging any intention to sell the products.

The attendees included:

  • -Bishop Jide Odusoga, Member of the Apex Leaders of Ikorodu-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA)
  • -Otunba (Dr) Hakeem Adetugbobo, Coordinator of the Senator Abiru Farmers Empowerment Program and Member of the Governor’s Council at Lagos State University (LASU)
  • -Otunba Jimoh Tijani, Ikorodu Division APC Chairman
  • -Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, Ikorodu APC Party Chieftain
  • -Alhaji Riliwan Jinodu, APC Apex Leader for the Ikorodu Division
  • -Alhaji Sulaimon Musiliu, Personal Aide on Politics to Senator Abiru
  • -Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA
  • -Alhaji Prince Jamiu Adio Saka, Chairman of the General Anwar-Ul Islam Movement of Nigeria, Ikorodu Mission, among others.

Mr. Enitan Olukotun, Media Aide to Senator Abiru, announced the establishment of the “Doing-Good Cooperative Society” initiative. This initiative is designed to improve agricultural practices through a semi-mechanized approach to food production. Mr Olukotun highlighted various infrastructural advancements, investments in the health sector, and the reconstruction of primary schools that Senator Abiru has facilitated throughout the district.

Dcns. Wonuola Aderibigbe Oshinowo, Woman Leader of the Lagos-East Senatorial District, urged all attendees to adopt traditional agricultural practices as a means of income generation and to leverage home-grown farming, which can contribute to lowering market prices for agricultural products.

Otunba Jimoh Tijani commended Senator Abiru for the provision of fertilizers, emphasizing their significant impact on local farmers and the broader community.

Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola requested a special prayer for Senator Abiru, a sentiment echoed by the farmers present.

Alhaji Shehu Usman Jubril, the Chairman of Mile 12 International Market, Lagos and Director General of the Arewa Community (Abiru Group), asserted that Senator Abiru represents a substantial asset to the Lagos East jurisdiction, acknowledging his consistent efforts and impact, which have earned him the title of “Doing-Good Senator.

He additionally encouraged beneficiaries to utilize the fertilizers effectively to assist in reducing food costs in the market.

The local farming community expressed profound appreciation for Senator Abiru, distinguishing him from previous representatives and recognizing his significant contributions as a senator.

The Lagos East senatorial district encompasses the local government areas of Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ikorodu, Kosofe, and Somolu within Lagos State, Nigeria.
