The National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers’ Employers of Nigeria (NASWDEN) under the Presidency of Comrade John Egaji Obey and its executive board of trustees has organised a special delegate conference against vandals and double taxation on the highways at Roop Hotel, Kubwa, Abuja, Nigeria on Wednesday, November 7th, 2024 to officially take proactive steps against vandalism, double taxation and unregistered scrap and waste dealers across the nation.

The NASWDEN President, Comrade Obey appointed a new National Disciplinary Chairman, Comrade Prince Abioye Olayemi Kabir to help curb vandals and indiscipline acts in their trade-union industry. Comr. Obey in his speech task the new disciplinary Chairman to work within the ambit of the rules and regulations of the union. In furtherance of his speech, he commends the leadership role of Comr. Abioye while he was an ordinary member of the union, said “He is noteworthy of the appointment“.

Speaking in an interview with the NASWDEN President, Comrd. Obey said they are ready to hit the ground running with the involvement of all the security agencies and stakeholders including the Nigerian Police, Civil Defence, and the Ministry of Mine and Steel Development. Henceforth, any truck conveying scrap metals, including iron, aluminium, copper etc. shall be thoroughly investigated and inspected by the disciplinarian officers team on the highways across Nigeria.


He added that if any metals are suspected to be Federal, State, or Local Government vandalized property, the culprit shall be apprehended by our team and handed over to the security agencies for legal and judicial punishment.
In his closing remark, he urged all dealers of scrap and waste nationwide who are yet to register with the trade union to embark on a formal registration with the union. Hence, appropriate actions shall be taken by the government of the union with the constitution.

In a statement made by the newly appointed National Disciplinary Chairman, Comrade Prince Abioye Olayemi Kabir extended his gratitude and appreciation to God Almighty, His Parents, the President and the board of trustees.

Appreciates the entire members and leadership of this association for finding him worthy of this appointment. This is a call to action for me to move this association forward beyond where we are. “It is a challenge for me to display my leadership skills”.
Making me the custodian of the laws of our association is not a small task, “I will ensure that the office remains a place where the sanity of the association is being protected and ensures the supremacy of the Constitution”, he said.
Following his direct speech, said;
Fellow members of the National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria, today marks a new chapter in our collective journey.
“I pledge to ensure disciplinary actions, swift and fair action against anyone violating our association’s laws, maintaining a culture of accountability and respect”. We will make sure that members are accountable and subject to the laws of our dear association.
We will ensure peaceful cooperation to foster an environment where members collaborate seamlessly, uphold working agreements, and promote mutual understanding.
In addition, timely payment of dues will be implemented. We will encourage prompt payment of dues, adhering to our laws and regulations. We will ensure that anyone who fails to pay dues will be disciplined by the leadership of the association according to the laws.
Lastly, we will make sure that our office is transparent and will not take any action with a biased mind. Our decisions will not be influenced by an external body. Ensuring that nobody escapes the law while nobody will be punished wrongly. Fairness to all is our watchword.
Let us work together to build a stronger and more united association.
