The Lagos State House of Assembly has formally impeached former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa today, Monday, January 13, 2025, during a session convened in the legislative chamber. This decision was based on allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Following the impeachment, the assembly members proceeded to swear in Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, the former Deputy Speaker of the house, as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Notably, an overwhelming 90 percent of the legislative members voted in favour of Mr Obasa’s removal from his former position. The allegations leading to the former Speaker’s impeachment have yet to be disclosed.
