PRESS RELEASE:

It is essential to reaffirm that more than two-thirds of the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly are firmly united in their support of the newly appointed Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda. We uphold the decision made on January 13th regarding the impeachment of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa stands resolutely by this course of action. As elected representatives of the citizens of Lagos, we are committed to providing effective governance and fostering cooperative relationships with other governmental bodies.

The stance of the House remains unchanged; nothing has shifted in this regard. The assertions made by former Speaker Rt. Hon. Obasa is deemed inappropriate and lacks parliamentary decorum.

While the majority of members initially elected Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker for the 10th Assembly, the same assembly subsequently reached a majority decision to remove him and lend support to the new Speaker. Thus, the situation is consistent, and no alterations have occurred.

All members were elected from their respective constituencies throughout the state and possess the undeniable right, as outlined in relevant statutory regulations, to effect the removal of principal officers, including the Speaker.

I therefore urge the former Speaker to embrace a path of peace and cooperation, as exemplified by his colleagues. The current obstinate stance risks exacerbating tensions within the political arena, which would be detrimental to our collective interests. Any efforts to disrupt the prevailing tranquillity will be met with opposition from the majority of distinguished members who unanimously elected Rt. Hon. Meranda.

Our objective is to maintain peace in Lagos, and we are committed to achieving this goal.

E-signed

Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode
