As part of the “Greater Lagos” vision and mission agenda, His Excellency, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, alongside his Executive Cabinet, remains steadfast in his commitment to the sustainable empowerment of youth in Lagos State. This initiative aims to reduce unemployment and criminality, foster rapid and sustainable socio-economic development, enhance food production, improve food security, and ultimately enhance the quality of life for the large population of Lagos State, in accordance with the THEMES Plus Agenda.

During a fish training and empowerment program organized by the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) in Igbodu Epe, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Lanre-Agbaje, encouraged participants to leverage the various developmental initiatives put forth by the Governor to enhance their skills, increase their business revenues, and contribute to the socio-economic transformation of the state.

Dr. Lanre-Agbaje further emphasized that the Governor is dedicated to providing extensive support to ensure that the youth are adequately prepared to tackle prevailing socio-economic challenges. He assured the participants that additional training and empowerment programs focused on diverse skill sets are forthcoming, contingent upon their ability to translate the opportunities provided into tangible achievements.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing human capacity building by extending the program to various rural communities in Lagos State. This effort aims to mitigate rural-urban migration, create employment opportunities, and increase food production within the state.

Similarly, Mr. Musibau Muyiwa Balogun, the Director of CERUD, encouraged participants to perceive the training not as another routine activity, but as an opportunity to acquire innovative methods that could lead to superior outcomes. He assured the attendees that, with the Governor’s approval, the Centre would introduce multiple additional programs that would significantly impact the socio-economic dynamics of the youth in Lagos State.

Dr. Femi Oke, Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Lagos chapter, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his ongoing support of farmers in the state. He articulated the association’s desire for deeper collaboration with the government to enhance food production for the benefit of Lagos residents and requested an expansion of governmental assistance to include other agricultural sectors, such as crop production.

In response, several beneficiaries conveyed their commitment to effectively utilizing the training resources and empowerment materials provided, expressing their appreciation to the government for this generous initiative.

Upon conclusion of the training exercise, 100 participants received essential materials, including fish tanks, fish feeds, and smoking kilns, to support their endeavours in aquaculture.
