The Ikorodu indigenes, both in the diaspora and at home, have united to establish Ikorodu-Oga Heritage Global Association, aimed at enhancing and promoting Ikorodu City as a premier destination for global tourism.
This gathering took place yesterday, February 27, 2025, at the central mosque located at the Alogba Estate junction on Ibeshe Road, in the Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Nigeria.
The event was attended by distinguished social businesswomen and businessmen from Ikorodu, aimed at promoting their heritage and culture while establishing a world-class annual event for others to emulate.
Their proposed meeting agenda focuses on the official establishment of a name for the Ikorodu-Oga Heritage Global Association Group, to address the issues affecting the various associations (clubs) within Ikorodu and offer solutions to help achieve their goals in promoting Ikorodu’s heritage.

Ikorodu is recognized as a vibrant and dynamic city. In this context, the Ikorodu-Oga Heritage Global Association and the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS) have decided to collaborate effectively with His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Paramount Ruler of Ikorodu Division, to ensure that Ikorodu sustainably becomes the headquarters of Lagos State.
The Ikorodu-Oga Heritage Global Indigenous Association, is an independent organization established to collaborate with IKODASS rather than operate under their guidelines or instructions.
The statement was clearly expressed by the group representative of Ikorodu-Oga Heritage Global Association, Alhaja Kafilat Oriyomi Bakare, and formally acknowledged by the IKODASS Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Erogbogbo, who affirmed the freedom to operate as an independent organization.
The Chairman of Ikodass, Erogbogbo, encouraged the Ikorodu-Oga Heritage Global Association to register their social organization with the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association for collaboration and achievement of projects.
He emphasized that they might not operate under its guidelines and instructions, as each association has its own distinct vision, mission, and objectives.

Chief Mrs. Busola Isikalu, Iya’Oloja General of the Ikorodu Division, CEO, Busiq Fabrics- in her speech emphasized that Ikorodu is no more village as some people pronounced it to be, “Ikorodu is a city and not a village”.

She appealed to the Ikorodu-Oga Heritage global businesswomen and businessmen to establish more trading ventures in Ikorodu to promote commerce and industry in the area.

It was stated that the establishment of more trading businesses in Ikorodu will contribute to the city’s economic growth.

The CEO of Busiq Fabrics urged the global business tycoons to establish their business annexes in Ikorodu, stating that this would enhance the region’s economic growth. This statement was made in appreciation of the Ikorodu-Oga Heritage Global Association’s Initiative.
In preparation for the courtesy visit to the Ayangburen Palace, the meeting with His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, has been scheduled for April 9th, 2025, at the Ayangburen Palace in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.

In an interview with Alhaja Chief Mrs. Adepeju Arowojobe (née Oyebola), the Iya’Oloja General of Ogijo Kingdom stated that the purpose of this gathering is to unite, promote, and develop Ikorodu City, which has been their ancestral home.
“I appreciate His Royal Majesty, Oba Shotobi, for bringing us together to support and promote the developmental growth of Ikorodu”, Chief Mrs. Adepeju Arowojobe (née Oyebola) stated.

His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, represented by his Personal Assistant, Prince Ademola Adeyeri, expressed his gratitude to the dedicated global indigenes of Ikorodu who initiated this innovative project of Ikorodu-Oga Heritage Global Association.
Kabiyesi described the initiative as a brilliant and unique idea that will foster further development in the city of Ikorodu and Lagos State as a whole.

“If we are here to unite and embrace Ikorodu’s heritage in our quest to establish a global tourist destination in Lagos State, let us not act in a fragmented manner driven by our individual ambitions to promote our heritage. Instead, let us come together as one to collaboratively achieve our shared goal,” said Prince Ademola Adeyeri.

Ikorodu is a city located in Lagos State, Nigeria. It is situated to the northeast of Lagos, along the Lagos Lagoon, and shares a boundary with Ogun State. With a population exceeding 1 million residents, Ikorodu is currently the 12th largest city in Nigeria. The city is growing at an annual rate of 5.26% and is projected to reach 1.7 million inhabitants by 2035.
Additionally, it is the second largest local government area in Lagos State. The indigenous settlers of Ikorodu emigrated from Sagamu in Ogun State.
