The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) in collaboration with Transparency International and supported by Population Matters UK, conducted a Capacity Building Workshop for Media, Institutions and the Public on Imperative of Population Planning in Nigeria today, Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Blue Orange Hotel & Towers, located at 151 Ikorodu Road, Onipan, Lagos State, Nigeria.

The workshop aimed to engage stakeholders in discussions and propose solutions towards achieving a healthy and prosperous nation through effective population planning.

This comprehensive workshop emphasized the necessity of implementing a policy designed to regulate population growth in Nigeria through enhanced maternal health practices, family planning initiatives, and the establishment of additional healthcare facilities across local governments and local council development areas.

The dialogue highlighted the critical concerns facing the nation, particularly the implications of excessive maternal production without corresponding support for individual well-being, which can perpetuate cycles of poverty.

During the interactive segment, various observations emerged concerning population control, with many participants advocating for the development of policies that align childbirth rates with individuals’ financial capabilities, commonly referred to as Family Planning.

Moreover, the importance of establishing a robust database to ensure accountability within the population was underscored.

Concerns were also raised regarding the increasing number of foreign migrants in Nigeria lacking proper database registration. It was suggested that the creation of more healthcare centers across Lagos State and nationwide could facilitate better population management through family planning initiatives and community-based outreach programs.

Further details regarding the workshop outcomes will be communicated in due course.
